More Details On Devin’s Lawsuit Against Ryan

Devin Haney filed a lawsuit in New York on Friday (Sept. 27), accusing Ryan Garcia of battery and fraud related to their April match, according to TMZ.

Roomies, if you remember, Ryan knocked Devin down multiple times and won the fight at the Barclays Center. However, officials later declared the match a no-contest due to Ryan testing positive for ostarine.

According to ESPN, Haney is pursuing unspecified damages and claims Garcia committed battery by arguing that “his contest should have adhered to fair rules.”

“While Devin Haney agreed to participate in a prize fight against Garcia, at no time did he agree to engage in a bout against an individual who had taken a performance-enhancing drug,” the lawsuit explains.

Devin Haney accused Ryan of fraud for claiming he “tried to make weight and failed.” Ryan weighed 143.2 pounds for a fight contested at 140 for Haney’s WBC junior welterweight title.

ESPN noted the fight went ahead after Haney accepted a deal post-weigh-in, making Garcia ineligible for the title. Furthermore, Ryan later admitted he intentionally missed weight.

The lawsuit also targets Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions for breach of contract.

Per TMZ, Devin seeks damages, stating the situation caused him “physical injury, reputational harm worth millions, and emotional and mental distress.”

Ryan addressed the lawsuit in an Instagram post, asserting that he was being sued for simply carrying out his duties.

“I’m being sued for doing my job. This fight has been a Netflix documentary but this right here is the finale. Your honor he simply struggles with left hook syndrome,” Ryan wrote.

Additional Info & Updates On Ryan Garcia

Ryan Garcia has stayed in the headlines recently after being arrested for felony vandalism in June and ongoing issues with his ex-wife, Andrea Celina.

As TSR previously noted, he received a one-year suspension from boxing after settling with the New York State Athletic Commission due to positive tests for ostarine, a performance-enhancing drug.

At that time, ESPN reported that he would be reinstated on April 20, 2025, if his urine test returned negative for banned substances. By agreeing to the settlement, he avoided a court hearing.

Shortly after the news of his suspension broke, Ryan took to X (formerly Twitter) to announce his retirement and assert his innocence, claiming there is “so much corruption” in the sports industry.

Devin shared his thoughts on Ryan’s suspension during a phone interview with ESPN. He expressed his satisfaction with the outcome, believing that justice had been served.

“I want to thank the commission and the fans who stood by me during this whole process. The facts are the facts, and I wasn’t on an even playing field. Happy I was able to receive justice for what happened. It’s all part of my story and it’s only going to make me better. I look to enjoy this time with my family and friends and see what’s next,” he said.

Additionally, he emphasized his commitment to advocating for clean athletes in the future.

“I’m a clean athlete and boxing is a brutal sport where one fight can literally change your life. I think it’s important for fighters to be clean, and I want to become an advocate for clean athletes for my experience in this situation.”
